작가 소개

캐서린 번하드는 현대 미국 화가이다. 1975년 미주리의 세인트 루이스에서 태어난 그녀는 시카고 예술대학에서 BFA를 받은 후 뉴욕으로 이주하여 2000년 시각 예술대학에서 MFA를 취득했다. 그녀는 잡지와 광고로부터 수집한 모델들과 연예인들의 두껍게 그려진 초상화로 자신의 미술세계를 확립했고, 이후 손으로 짠 모로코 융단의 설치 등 다양한 재료들을 실험해 왔다. 그녀의 작품들은 포트워스 현대 미술관과 세인트 세인트 세인트 미술관에서 전시됐다.
밝은 색상의 열대 동물, 담배, 타코, 농구와 같은 특정한 모티브로 아프리카 직물의 추상적인 반복을 혼합한 그림을 그린다. 스프레이 페인트와 아크릴 세탁으로 빠르게 만들어진 캐서린 번하드의 작품은 공식적인 병렬 배치와 다양한 내용으로 채워진다.
